History
The Last Alarm Club was founded in 1977 by a group of concerned
Fire Fighters and friends of Houston Professional Fire Fighters
Association, Local 341. Initially, the fund was created to assist
the family of a Houston Fire Fighter killed in the line of duty.
Since the early 1980's, Houston was blessed in the fact that we
had no line of duty deaths until 1999. This "Good Luck"
brought less attention to the Last Alarm Club and donations virtually
ceased.
In 1994, The Houston Fire Department suffered a tragedy with
the off-duty death of Captain Danny Thomas. Although a memorial
service was held here in Houston, his funeral was in Washington,
PA. At that time, there were no official means of providing funds
for those members representing their respective groups. In 1996
a By-Law was passed by Last Alarm Club Board of Trustees to allow
funds to be used in emergency situations such as out of town funerals
or for hotel rooms for families of severely injured Fire Fighters.
This has already been used several times this year.
